When to visit?

The summers of July and August make for the best months to go to Iceland. Even 24-hour day June is full of visitors from all over. Iceland has exceptionally fickle weather and can give you a lot of grief in seconds. Be ready to see all the seasons of Iceland transit in mere seconds. The first week of October and September also make sense for travel. The crowds are thinner here. Hardcore mountain and trekking people should ideally go in the summers.

 

Average cost per person

In 2008, Iceland went through some trauma. This led the costs of travel to drop down suddenly. Now it was available to a lot more budgets, and people could come here quickly. Now, ten years later the travel business has a shop right up through the roof. Everything is not exuberant. The time of the trip will also determine prices. They can go up to 1 lakh 50,000 rupees or even 2 lakhs.

 

Visa Requirements

As with a lot of other countries, Iceland falls in the Schengen category of visas. This a standard process of acquiring a Visa for a lot of countries in the European region. You can visit any of the 25 Schengen countries with that one Visa. The process requires different documents depending on whether you are employed, self-employed, retired or students. This process makes everything easier. You do not have to keep getting Visas for every country.

Reykjavik:

Reykjavik is tiny. But it is filled to the top and is falling out the sides with soul. Energy consumes you here. Eyes pop. Laughter stands out before anything else. With comparison with the big cats like London or Paris, Reykjavik is minuscule. But its scream of energy redeems it. The city is a colorful blip on the radar of the ice.

Art has its hold on this city. There is so much contemporary art going around. Icelandic movie and theatre scenes are very loud, and Reykjavik showcases all of that. The food and nightlife are enviable. The big cats should be scared.

Akureyri:

Ah-Koo-rare-ee is the second biggest city in Iceland. But hang on. Don’t start comparing it to big ones like Melbourne and Manchester yet. How can it be compared? With a population of barely 18,600 people living. Akureyri lies at the foot of Eyjafjörður which is the base of many Icelandic peaks.

The summers bring home meadows with dandelions just a hair’s width away from the Arctic circle. The ski routes and lively winter festivals make this the kind of place you want to be.

Vik:

Vik, the southernmost tip of Iceland. It is wetter than the wettest. Moss covers everything in sight. Be careful not to trip. The fog will embrace you and hide all your troubles. The summer is also the same. But this has never stopped the people. Vik is packed to the black.

It becomes a perfect base for anyone wanting to visit the beautiful basalt beach of Reynisfjara. There are some volcanoes, lagoons and rocky plateaus that you get instant access from here. The colors of Vik will intoxicate you. There just is some magic about it.

Waterfalls gush out of nooks and corners of towering mountains. Multicolored wooden houses dot the landscape. It is like a real map. The eyes stick to each spot as if they have never witnessed anything so significant. This is the embodiment of how beauty looks like. This is an architecturally smart town and gives you more questions than answers. You will want to stay forever here, hidden, looking for the meaning of life.

Summer is the liveliest. You should try and avoid Seyðisfjörður on Wednesdays as the ferry to Europe sail on Thursdays. The place is on a hot plate of demands. Look for a place to sleep beforehand.

Hofn:

Hofn is pronounced as a “hup” It is the blend of a hiccup and a burp. It means the harbor. This makes a lot of sense since a lot of its occupation works on fishing and water-related things. It is incredibly famous for its humor, which is translated to lobster but is actually langoustine. This is a transit city, and most people drop in once while traveling so make sure your bookings are in order.

It is not bigger than most villages. But in the middle of the vast nothing, it seems significant. Find yourself a beautiful place to sit here and give your mind and body the calm it deserves.

This is an unreal experience. This is inside the Þríhnúkagígur volcano. Don’t worry. You will not be engulfed. It has been dormant for 4,000 years now.

This is no doubt one of the most beautiful spots in the world. It is a mine of experiences never seen in the world. But, it is also home to an extremely violent and unpredictable nature of weather. You have to be prepared for anything. Do not venture out when not guided to. It is slippery, and any amount of problems could come up.

• Winters

Even though the conditions are unpredictable and confusing and harsh to handle, the winters are the best time to go. The magazines and sites show Iceland as matted, mossed mountains in the meadowy summer. But the winters have a different charm. This is THE time to go.

• Car

When you rent a car, they will ask you a series of questions about where, how, when you will be going. And if you will be going off the road. Say yes to this. Make sure to take as much added insurance as possible. Iceland with its rough module of living will require you to have this reassurance.

• Gas

Gas stations in Iceland do not take credit cards. Most places across Iceland do take all types of money, but not gas. Make sure to keep a debit card on you. They do not accept cards without pins. But, you need not get too much cash.
