When to visit?

The dry summer between May and October gets a lot of pleasant days and therefore is the best time to go to Peru. But it is the peak season so you must book in advance. But it is a pain to luxury travelers a lot of times.

Cuzco:

• Do not drink their tap water

The travel culture in Peru is all consuming. They have developed a great deal. But there is one thing they haven’t improved. That is their drinking water. Never drink or brush with their water. Most hotels leave water bottles in the washrooms and rooms but just in case make sure you carry enough bottles with you.

• Go to Machu Pichu before going to Cusco

A lot of people will tell you to go to Cusco first. Cusco is at 3000 plus altitude, and Machu Pichu is 2000 plus. Hence it will make travel a lot easier if you go to Machu Pichu first. Also, try to make sure you stay at least a night near Machu Pichu.

• Book all tickets in advance

Even though travel is an everyday natural being in Peru, there are limited trains to and from Machu Pichu. The air tickets are limited and they get expensive if not booked in advance. Book your tickets when you reach the airport itself. Even your hotel can book the rail for you.

• Cocoa Tea

This herbal concoction passed onto generations by the forefathers of Peru. This works miracles for high altitude sickness and can be chewed on. You will be offered this a lot of times but be careful not to drink it at night as it will keep you awake. You can try as much of it as you want to in Peru. But try not getting it back home. It is illegal in the U.S and hence might cause issues in customs.
